ARDOVA HANDBALL PREMIER LEAGUE: FRSC’s Safety Shooters, Safety Babes Crowned Champions

The Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports, Surulere, Lagos, came alive on Friday as FRSC teams — Safety Shooters and Safety Babes — emerged champions of the men’s and women’s categories of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025. The grand finale was attended by members of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) board and top officials of Ardova PLC.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Ardova PLC, Dr. Abdulwasiu Sowami, represented by the Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Abiola Babatunde-Ojo, described the league as highly exciting and a testament to the sport’s growing standard. The season began months ago with the first phase in Benin City before the decisive second phase in Lagos.
For Safety Shooters, the victory marked their first men’s title since 2020, topping the table with 57 points from 20 matches. The defending women’s champions, Safety Babes, extended their dominance with a historic fifth consecutive title, further solidifying their reputation as the most successful team in the league’s history.
Safety Shooters capped their campaign with a commanding 43–32 win over COAS Shooters, finishing with 18 wins, one draw, and one loss, and an impressive goal difference of +214. Rima Strikers placed second with 52 points after a narrow 27–26 loss to Correction Boys, while COAS Shooters settled for third with 51 points. Other results saw De Defenders beat Osun United 31–23, Tojemarine Academy edge Niger United 28–27, and Benue Buffaloes claim a walkover against Adamawa Warriors.
In the women’s division, Safety Babes overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Rima Queens 27–24, securing their sixth league title overall. They finished the season with 13 wins from 14 matches and a +128 goal difference. Rima Queens placed second with 31 points, while Omo Ogiefo Academy claimed third with 32 points.
HFN President, Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNSQ), praised the growing professionalism of the league and urged Ardova PLC to sustain its support, stressing that the partnership has helped develop players now representing Nigeria internationally. Ardova PLC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the league’s continued growth.
