Sodje Hails Morocco’s CAF Awards Sweep as Reward for Years of Strategic Football Investment

Former Nigerian international Sam Sodje has described Morocco’s dominant performance at the 2025 CAF Awards Ceremony as a clear testament to the country’s long-term investment in football development and infrastructure.

At the glamorous ceremony held on Wednesday night, Morocco swept five major categories — a historic achievement that immediately set the continent talking. The North African nation clinched CAF Player of the Year, CAF Women’s Player of the Year, CAF Young Player of the Year, CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year, and CAF Best Goalkeeper, underscoring its growing football influence across Africa.

Sodje said Morocco’s clean sweep did not happen by accident but was the outcome of deliberate planning, massive infrastructural upgrades, and a strong commitment to youth development. According to him, Morocco’s investment model — from world-class training facilities to a structured academy system and consistent national team programmes — has now become a blueprint for football success on the continent.

He added that the awards should serve as a wake-up call to other African nations, especially those struggling with inconsistent structures and poor grassroots development. Sodje stressed that sustainable success in football requires more than talent, noting that Morocco’s achievements reflect what happens when preparation, vision, and investment align.

With five prestigious trophies in one night, Morocco’s dominance at the 2025 CAF Awards has further cemented its status as one of Africa’s most progressive football nations — and, as Sodje puts it, “a product of doing the right things for many years.”
