Ex-Int'l Sodje, Backs Victor Boniface to Regain Form and Confidence
By Chimaobi Jose Nzoromobi
Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, has thrown his support behind Nigerian striker Victor Boniface, urging him to stay focused and rediscover his top form despite recent setbacks in his career.
Boniface, who is currently on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, has endured a difficult spell this season, struggling with consistency and facing criticism from his club manager over his performances.
Sodje, speaking on the striker’s situation, expressed confidence that Boniface has the talent and mental strength to bounce back stronger, describing the current dip as a temporary phase in his development.
The 23-year-old forward has faced a string of disappointments in recent months — including a failed transfer move to Saudi Arabia, an aborted deal with AC Milan, and ultimately being loaned out by Bayer Leverkusen despite an impressive start to his Bundesliga career.
Sodje, however, believes such challenges are part of a footballer’s journey. “Every player goes through tough moments. What matters is how you respond. Boniface has the quality — he just needs confidence and the right environment to express himself again,” the former Nigeria international stated.
Boniface will be hoping to rediscover his goal-scoring touch and prove his critics wrong as Bremen continue their push in the Bundesliga campaign.
