SODJE HAILS NDDC U-17 CUP, LAMENTS ABSENCE OF DELTA TEAMS IN FINAL.

 


Former Nigeria international, Sam Sodje has lauded  the just-concluded 2022 Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC under-17 Cup, describing it as a grassroots competition that must be sustained 

The Ex- Portsmouth FC of England defender along with former AS Fiorentina midfielder, Christian Obodo were amongst top dignitaries that graced final of the second edition of the NDDC under-17 championship in Asaba, Delta state  on Sunday.

Donastars FC of Abia state came from two goals down few minutes to stoppage time to snatch the equaliser and go on to clinch the trophy.

Speaking on Tuesday during a telephone interview on Crown FM radio,Sodje expressed satisfaction with quality of the competition,stressing it is providing needed exposure for age grade players.

While lamenting the inability of teams from Delta state to make it to the final of this year's edition,he called for more investment in sports infrastructure in the state. Sodje explained that sports, especially football has over the years served as a major means of empowerment for young people in Delta and as such must not be relegated to the background.
