DAY 1 RESULTS:All Nigeria Athletics Championships, Warri 2015


African and Commonwealth Games champion, Blessing Okagbare was not in
action at the 2015 All Nigeria Athletics Championships which began at the Warri City Stadium yesterday as excused herself from the championships.
She wrote to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria claiming that she is nursing an injury, which has ruled her out of all competition.
However, she said her conditions will improve before the world championships and the All African Games.
AFN spokesman Olukayode Thomas said the board of the AFN met , discussed her case and granted her an exemption. He added that Chinwe Okoro has also been exempted because she is sitting for an exam.

In the Absence of Okabgbare Female athletes yesterday put up dismal performances at the All Nigeria Athletics Championships in Warri.
The IAAF standard for the women’s 100 metres event is 11.33 seconds, but US-based Gloria Asumnu won in 11.42secs ahead of Stephanie Kalu (11.47) and Deborah Odeyemi (11.66).

There was something to cheer about, however, as Ogue Faustina set a national record in the women’s 20km walk race in 1 hour, 45 minutes, 18 seconds.
The former record was 1:55:16 set in 2007 by Queensly Asedo.
Oludele Fadekemi finished second in 1:48:00, while Asedo was third in 1:50:28.
In the men’s triple jump, Tosin Oke won with a leap of 16.98metres, Olamide Olajumoke was second with a jump of 16.80m, while Adedoyin Kolawole was third with 15.79m.

Lindsey Weyinmi, won the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.40secs ahead of Amusan Tobiloba and Ayemoba Grace, while Tyron Akins won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.68secs.
