Roberto Carlos: Ronaldo has to win the Ballon d'Or

 Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos believes Cristiano Ronaldo fully deserves to win the 2014 Ballon d'Or ahead of Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo remains the favourite to clinch a second-successive prize after his sensational first half of the 2014-15 season, in a year which has seen him win the Champions League, Copa del Rey and Club World Cup with los Blancos.

Messi - named the best player at the World Cup this summer - and Manuel Neuer are also vying for the award, but Carlos feels the standards currently being set by Ronaldo make him the clear favourite.

"I am a big fan of Lionel Messi but Cristiano Ronaldo has been more impressive. He is living with incredible momentum. Everything he does goes right. He is a leader," the Brazilian said.

"I am not saying that because he is a Real Madrid player. This is not the point here. Messi is incredible and his history in football is marvellous. But we have to choose the best player in the season and that was Cristiano Ronaldo."

In a video currently trending on social media, Chief Emami said his advice was based purely on practical and economic reasons that could have affected the timely and cost-effective completion of the project.
