Nigeria slump to 37th in Fifa ranking
Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped four places to 37th in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday.
The African champions were adjudged the 34th best football playing team in the world following theri impressive displays at the Fifa World Cup.
The Eagles are now the sixth-ranked African side behind Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Ghana and Senegal.
World champions Germany (1) are top of the pile with Argentina in the second place.
The Netherlands who won bronze at the World Cup dropped to 4th on the rankings as Colombia moved up to the third position.
Former world champions Spain fell to the 8th spot with France in the 9th place as Switzerland occupy the tenth position.
In Africa, Ghana moved up three places to stay 33rd in the world and fourth in the continent with Senegal onto the 36th spot and fifth in the region.
Cameroon moved up twelve places to 42nd. Even at this leap, they are the eighth highest-ranked African side.
Cape Verde are the highest movers having jumped 33 places up to the 41st place in the world and seventh in Africa, while Congo who stunned Nigeria 3-2 in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers moved 30 steps up to emerge as the 48th best team in the world and 11th on the continent.
