It would be a ‘disaster’ for Arsenal to miss out on Champions League football next season, according to former Gunners star Paul Merson.
Arsene Wenger's side, who have qualified for the competition in each of the last 16 years, are in danger of missing out of next year's tournament, with Everton a game and a point behind the Gunners.
Merson, who played 289 league games for the club, believes they have not strengthened as much as required over the years.In the box: Podolski got on the end of a Santi Cazorla cross to equalise for the Gunners before half-time
‘For all the many years, the stadium they built, they’ve got through the last 10 years here by playing Champions League football, not really bringing in big-name stars,’ Merson told Sky Sports.
The signing of Mesut Ozil for £42.5million in August is seen by a gamble by some, and may be criticised if Arsenal miss out next month.

In a video currently trending on social media, Chief Emami said his advice was based purely on practical and economic reasons that could have affected the timely and cost-effective completion of the project.
