Mancini builds 5-a-side teams, I create champions! Mind game master Mourinho
The idea of a duel with Jose Mourinho forced Roberto Mancini into a grin. ‘Unfortunately, me and Mourinho cannot play this game,’ said the Italian, aware that there’s no dispute about who was the better player.
Having won it with Porto and Inter Milan, the Chelsea boss is attempting to reach the semi-finals for the eighth time in 10 years and could be the first to coach three clubs to the title.
Galatasaray coach Mancini has made it past this last-16 stage only once and never beyond the quarter-finals, which may have been why it so tickled Mourinho to find his predecessor at Inter claiming some of the credit for their Champions League title in 2010.
‘It’s funny, it’s funny,’ sniggered the Chelsea manager. ‘It’s funny because my team in the final had Lucio, Thiago Motta, Diego Milito, Samuel Eto’o, Goran Pandev and Wesley Sneijder.
'From 11 players, he didn’t work with six of them. So he made a five-a-side team because I played with only five players from his team.’
