US OPEN:Federer and Serena on the march

Grace: Federer plays a forehand during his second-round victory
Roger Federer gave another hint that he could yet be a factor in the later stages of the US Open by brushing aside Carlos Berlocq in the second round.

The five-time champion breezed to  a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Argentina's Berlocq on Arthur Ashe.

Stretch: Williams lost just three games against Voskoboeva
Serena Williams wasted little time reaching the third round of the US Open with a comfortable victory over Galina Voskoboeva.

The Kazakh, ranked 77th in the world, put up a better fight than the 6-3, 6-0 scoreline suggested but it was still nowhere near enough to threaten the world number one.

Star attraction: Murray remains on course to defend his US Open title at Flushing Meadows
Better late than never, Andy Murray finally got the defence of his US Open title underway after the longest wait of any competitor at this year's tournament.
He inflicted a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 defeat on the French lefthander in a contest that lasted 98 minutes.
