Chelsea owner wants to dump John Terry

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH wants to dump John Terry as Chelsea  captain and replace him with David Luiz. Abramovich is keen on Luiz becoming the man to lead the club forward, sparking further doubts about Terry’s Chelsea future. Luiz is currently down the captain’s pecking order at Stamford Bridge behind Terry, Frank Lampard and Petr Cech.

Howard Webb to referee Manchester United v Chelsea

            OR Howard Webb has been appointed as referee for the Premier League tie between Manchester United  and  Chelsea  at Old Trafford on Sunday. The 41-year-old, who took charge of the 2010 World Cup final, is no stranger to controversial games between the two English giants with both clubs vocal critics of decisions from the official during past encounters.

Manchester City to launch ambitious €38m Reus raid

Manchester City  will launch an ambitious €38 million bid for  Borussia Dortmund  star  Marco Reus  before the end of the season. The Premier League side are preparing a package that will double Reus' €71,000-a-week wages and will make a formal offer to Dortmund in the next 10 days. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is understood to be reluctant to leave the German club just a year after joining from Borussia Monchengladbach - but City will test their resolve with a big-money bid.

Aston Villa 6-1 Sunderland

Aston Villa yesterday continued their fight to avoid relegation as they defeated Sunderland 6-1. A second-half hat-trick from Christian Benteke and  further  strikes from Ron Vlaar, Danny Rose and    Gabriel Agbonlahor helped secured a vital three points for the home side. The result takes villa to 16th position in the league table.

EMENIKE OUT FOR TWO MONTHS AGAIN

  Emmanuel Emenike’s “sweet” return has turned sour after he suffered a knee injury on Sunday and will now be out for at least two months. This means that the 2013 AFCON Goal King will miss Nigeria’s hectic June schedule that will see the Super Eagles play two 2014 World Cup qualifiers as well as feature at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Beckham in London after red card last night

David Beckham was spotted in London this morning just hours after his sending off in a league match for Paris Saint-Germain. The former England captain was seen carrying his daughter Harper in Notting Hill after making his way back across the English Channel. Beckham was sent off for a studs-up lunge just six minutes into a substitute appearance in what could turn out to be his last ever match.

Ronaldo back in training

Cristiano Ronaldo has given Real Madrid a timely boost in their unlikely bid to overturn the three-goal deficit over Borussia Dortmund after the Portugal striker returned to full training this morning. The former Manchester United star missed Real’s Madrid derby win against Atletico on Saturday after picking up a thigh injury in the first-leg defeat by Dortmund. Ronaldo was upstaged by Dortmund counterpart Robert Lewandowski at the Westfalenstadion last week, as the ruthless Poland hitman scored all four goals in the crushing 4-1 win.

Arsenal: we won't sell any more players to United

Arsene Wenger is adamant he will not sell any more of his Arsenal stars to Manchester United after Robin van Persie swapped the Emirates for Old Trafford last summer. The Dutchman was part of the United team who turned out for the 1-1 draw between the two clubs in north London yesterday after being greeted with a guard of honour from his former team-mates.  The Premier League top goalscorer was jeered throughout the game by the same fans who previously lauded him, but scored a penalty to cancel out Theo Walcott’s early opener.

Suarez booed at PFA awards

Liverpool  striker  Luis Suarez  was booed on two occasions at the annual PFA Player of the Year awards in central London on Sunday. The awards ceremony, held at the Grosvenor Hotel in Mayfair, was attended by fellow professionals and guests who jeered the star following his recent behaviour. The PFA had been under pressure to remove Suarez from the awards shortlists following his actions at Anfield on April 21, but they refused and opted to keep the 26-year-old in contention.

ROUND UP OF NIGERIAN PLAYERS IN EUROPE

ENGLAND Victor Anichebe  started and ended for Everton in their 1-0 win over Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday. And as early as the second minute, Anichebe tried to test Mark Schwarzer, in goal for Fulham. His first attempt was high and wide and in the 22nd minute, his header was marginally wide. He got off another shot in the 33rd minute but it was also high and wide. In first half additional time, another right footed shot from outside the box was blocked. Anichebe had 74% accuracy of pass from 38 touches and won 83% of his aerial duels. He attempted four shots and successfully completed one dribble. Peter Odemwingie returned to the West Brom bench in their 3-0 away win over Southampton. The Nigerian has been out with a thigh injury. Wenger dismisses Paris Saint-Germain reports

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has distanced himself from reports suggesting that he will replace Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Ancelotti is being tipped to leave the French capital at the end of the season in order to take over at Real Madrid. Wenger, who has been at Arsenal since October 1996, insists he will see out his contract with the north London club which expires at the end of next season.
