Tottenham forward Gareth Bale has been named Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. Bale fought off competition from Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie of Manchester United to win the prestigious main award. He becomes only the third player to win both awards in the same season. Wigan will be playing Europa League football for the first time in their history next season after Manchester City beat West Ham 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. City's win means they can finish no lower than fifth in the Premier League, and are therefore now guaranteed European football next season. This is good for Wigan, who will face City in the FA Cup final on May 11 safe in the knowledge the Europa League spot available for the competition is theirs whatever the result.

John Terry has performed an amazing U-turn by declaring himself ready to come out of international retirement with England. The former captain, who walked away from his country ahead of an FA hearing into racism allegations last September, is prepared to answer any call from manager Roy Hodgson.  The Chelsea club skipper has also made it known he would be prepared to play alongside Rio Ferdinand if they were both recalled to the squad

Manchester United  legend Paddy Crerand believes  Darren Fletcher  has played his last game for the Premier League champions, with injuries and illness taking their toll on his career. The 29-year-old has not featured since December due to his ulcerative colitis condition, and according to the 1968 European Cup winner, he will not feature for Sir Alex Ferguson's side again. Crerand told repoters  "I love Darren Fletcher and I hate to say this, but I wouldn't expect to see him playing again for Manchester United. It's a dreadful thing to say and I hope I'm totally wrong, but I don't think I'm going to be wrong.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will not play in Saturday's derby clash against Atletico because of an injury to his leg, the Champions League semi-finalists have confirmed.  details to come.......
