They also missed out on a deal for Peter Crouch. Elsewhere, Arsene Wenger finally dusted off his cheque book, Stoke landed Jack Butland and even Villa got in on the act, signing Yacouba Sylla and Steven Dawkins on loan. Luis Suarez admits he is living the dream at Liverpool and intends to stay at Anfield for 'a very long time'. The Uruguay forward took his goal tally to 22 for the campaign with the opener in last night's 2-2 draw at Arsenal. The often controversial Suarez has quickly become a cult hero since his £22.8million move from Ajax on transfer deadline day two years ago.

Eagles to get $15,000-a-man to beat Cote d'Ivoire

The Super Eagles will each receive $15,000 if they beat Cote d’Ivoire and qualify for the semi-final of the 2013 AFCON on Sunday.  A top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official reconfirmed an MTNFootball.com exclusive of several weeks ago when he also disclosed each player will be $20,000 richer if they triumph in the semi-final.  For victory in the championship game on February 10 inside the National Stadium in Johannesburg, each player will pocket another $30,000.  Each player received $30,000 a day after the team qualified for the quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Sir Alex Ferguson  has revealed the "terrible dilemma"  Chicharito's  scintillating form has given him this season, with the  Manchester United  boss admitting he is struggling to accommodate his four international strikers. The 71-year-old manager signed Robin van Persie from Arsenal for £24 million in the summer, and the Holland striker has dazzled Old Trafford with 22 goals in just 28 appearances in all competitions.

Philippe Coutinho looks set to complete his move to Liverpool on Wednesday after he was pictured holding a Liverpool shirt. Liverpool have agreed an £8.5million fee with Inter for their Brazilian playmaker, who has also attracted interest from Southampton.

Roman Abramovich has written off Chelsea's chances of winning silverware this season and told Rafa Benitez to finish in the top four.  Chelsea's technical director Michael Emenalo met with Benitez at the club's training ground on Tuesday morning and passed on the message from their billionaire benefactor.

Interim  Chelsea  boss  Rafael Benitez  has confirmed defensive duo  Petr Cech  and  David Luiz will miss their Premier League clash against  Reading  on Wednesday through injury. The ex-Liverpool tactician also bemoaned the number of games his side have had to play over recent weeks and believes his squad lack strength in depth.  He told reporters: "We are playing more games than anyone. In some positions we have only two or three players, that's the reality.

Manchester City  have agreed the sale of  Mario Balotelli  to  AC Milan ,  Goal.com  understands. The two clubs reached an agreement over a €20 million (£17.1m) deal that will be spread over five years to see the Italy international move to San Siro. Balotelli is expected to earn €4m (£3.4m) a year, a paycut from his current £110,000 per week deal at the Premier League champions, and sign a four-year contract with Massimiliano Allegri's side.

Didier Drogba has signed an 18-month deal with Galatasaray after turning down the chance of a sensational return to Chelsea.   The Ivorian has joined the Turkish outfit on loan from his Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.  Roman Abramovich gave the go-ahead last week to offer Drogba a deal until the end of the season, with an option for a further year.

Arsenal ready last minute offer for Villa

Arsenal are set to step up their pursuits for David Villa before the closure of the transfer window this week after manager Arsene Wenger admitted the club are short of firepower. Despite Oliver Giroud and Theo Walcott finding the back of the net as the Gunners progressed to the last-16 of the FA Cup at the expense of Brighton on Saturday, it is understood the Frenchman still wants one more forward. Asked if he needs to sign a new striker before Thursday’s transfer window deadline, Wenger said: “Quality-wise, no. But number-wise we are maybe a bit short. It will not be easy, though, because you do not find strikers who are good enough to play for us on the street.”

The Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Joseph Yobo could be left out of their African Nations Cup Group C clash with Ethiopia in Rustenburg on Tuesday . Moses, 22, made his debut at the AFCON against Zambia but showed signs of still struggling with his hamstring, Supersport.com reports. The Chelsea attacking winger played for 78 minutes in the game against Zambia before he was substituted for Brown Ideye and is yet to recover from the injury, according to head coach, Stephen Keshi.

Balotelli says goodbye to Manchester City before flying out to Milan

reports say Mario Balotelli   is poised to fly to Italy  this evening ahead of a proposed medical as   Manchester City  and   AC Milan   near the final hours of negotiations over a transfer for the striker.   The 22-year-old said his goodbyes to team-mates and club staff after completing training at Carrington on Monday morning, and could travel to Milan over the next 24 hours.

Tottenham agree £1.5m Holtby fee with Schalke

Tottenham have agreed a £1.5 million deal to sign Lewis Holtby from Schalke this month. The midfielder had already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Spurs on a free transfer in the summer but the clubs have now agreed a fee to accelerate the move before the close of the January transfer window.

Philippe Coutinho arrive in Liverpool for medical

The midfielder is due to arrive in England for a medical and to finalise personal terms in the coming days and is set to be Liverpool's second signing of the window. Liverpool faced competition from Southampton for the Brazilian but appear to have got their man after an Anfield delegation flew to Italy this week to negotiate the transfer. The Reds have increased their initial €7.6m bid for Coutinho and the 20-year-old is understood to have made clear his preference to move to Anfield. Liverpool are also believed to be after Blackpool midfielder Tom Ince before the winter transfer window closes.

Arsenal face a battle with Atletico for Yoann Gourcuff

Reports this week have suggested that Arsene Wenger has identified the player he wants to add to the Arsenal midfield as Yoann Gourcuff  from lyon. The transfer might not be as easy as Wenger first hoped, however, as Atletico Madrid may also soon be chasing him. Atletico agent Nikola Franco has revealed that a loan fee of in the region of £2.5million would be out of the question if a deal was to happen this month.
